Moving Truck Rentals Print E-mail

When you are looking for moving truck rentals, you have a few options to consider. Do you just need a cargo van, or a 1 ton, 3 ton or 5 ton moving truck?

If you have not driven a standard before be sure to tell the moving truck rental company that you will need an automatic so that you don't get suprised when you pick up the truck.

Some moving trucks have a powered lift in the back which is handy for lifting heavy items. Other moving trucks will have a walkboard that makes it eas for carrying your items onto the truck. Ask the rental company which options they have.

Is your driveway on a steep incline? This is important to consider as some moving trucks will not be able to back up your driveway. This could cause you to have to carry everything farther then you expect.

Most moving truck rentals will charge you a flat rate for the day,
I recommend shopping around if they try to charge you the flat rate plus per mile as you can probably get a better deal. If you are looking to rent a moving truck for the end of the month it is a good idea to book the truck at least 2 weeks in advance. The majority of moves happen at the end of the month so if you leave it to the last week you may find that they are all booked.

When planning the amount of time you need the moving truck for, try to plan accurately so that you don't have to pay late fees (or for an extra day). It is a good idea to plan the time of day that you will be moving as well to avoid rush hour and traffic jams.

Some moving truck rentals will include a dolly and/or moving blankets. If not be sure to have a plan. You don't want your
expensive items to get scratched during the move. Also you will need restraints to tie the items to the side so that they do not shift around during the move. Ask the rental company if they include restraints with the truck.

When driving the moving truck be very careful about clearance.
A big mistake people make is that they dont see tree branches and then end up scratching the moving truck and have to pay extra money for this. In any case be sure to ask what the deductible is for the insurance and make sure that it is not too high.

Follow these guidelines and your moving truck rentals will go smoothly.
